Staffordshire most and least used railway stations
I lived in Staffordshire all my life and finds the railways in the county I live in to be interesting but in North Staffordshire lies Stoke-on-Trent, which is one of sixty-nine cities in the United Kingdom. Stoke-on-Trent also has it own railway station on the west coast main line operated by Avanti West Coast and is also Staffordshire most used station.
Stoke-on-Trent before the pandemic had over three million passengers who use the station but between 2020/2021 that dropped to 687,000 as people were not travelling due to the lockdown restrictions in England.
The history of Stoke-on-Trent railway station dates to the Victoria area as the station opened on the 9th of October 1848 by the North Staffordshire Railway. John Jay designed the station using an architectural style referred to as robust Jacobean manor-house and retains most of its mid-Victorian character
Stoke-on-Trent sees services between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston by Avanti West Coast Trains, between Crewe and Birmingham New Street by London Northwestern trains, Crewe and Newark Castle by East Midlands Railway and a local service between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly operated by Northern
Stoke-on-Trent is a reasonable location for taking photos and filming the trains at this location, Stoke-on-Trent also charter services and the odd freight trains from Cliffe Vale to Bescot Yard China clay passing through as well, but this part of the West Coast Main Line has passengers than freight, unlike the line between Stafford and Crewe which is busy with passenger and freight trains.
Heading north from Stoke-on-Trent lies Staffordshire least used station name Longport which operated by East Midlands Railway but also sees two Northern trains stop there and a handful of London Northwestern Railway services as well.
Longport was opened on the 9th October 1848 by the North Staffordshire Railway but unlike Stoke-on-Trent which sees three million passengers a year. Longport only sees about fifty thousand passengers, but this is massively down to sixteen thousand during 2020/2021 during the Pandemic with travel restrictions but hopefully that both railway stations do go back to pre-pandemic days and see passengers use the stations again.
I also made a video on YouTube travelling from Staffordshire most used station to Staffordshire least used station which can be watch here: https://youtu.be/uImzAetnxKw
Thank you and have a lovely day.
